Laura Alejo
Faculty Profile
Laura Alejo is a freelance illustrator, designer, and art director. Originally from Barcelona, she spent 14 years living in New York City, where she gained invaluable experience working in the creative industry.
Laura has collaborated on a diverse range of projects throughout her career, spanning graphic design and packaging, animation, and murals. From leading an underground design magazine to be in charge of art direction for top US motion studios and agencies.
Her passion for storytelling has led her to specialize in using illustration to bring narratives to life, producing storyboards, characters or styleframes to guide the creation of animation pieces. In recent years, Laura has focused on branding and illustration systems. She works with clients to create a distinctive identity through visual narrative and develop a customized library of assets that can be used across various media.
Not having a signature style as a commercial illustrator with a graphic design background, she approaches her work with a problem solving mentality, leaving aside trends and stereotypes and looking for unique solutions.
In addition to her commercial work, Laura is always exploring new techniques and outlets in her personal projects. She uses her love of comic strips to tell stories about motherhood, mental health, and the big questions in life. She has set up her own ceramic studio and is currently working on a graphic novel.
