Overview

There are over three billion people already online, with another billion to come in the next four years. Preparing for that evolving future means a deep understanding of these people’s needs, their cultural context, aspirations and challenges.

This class will help you to identify opportunities and strategies when it comes to designs for the next billions and how those translates to product needs. From research, to design best practices, and how to think about products that really matters and impact people in a positive way. Moreover, these techniques can be used to empathise with any type of user.

  • How diverse teams can be more effective;
  • Build empathy internally and externally with teams and organisations via research;
  • The importance of healthy skepticism and resilience while building a product;
  • How cultural context, access and gender can impact on product design perception across different countries;
  • Product design: designing with value proposition in mind – jobs to be done and other frameworks;
  • Agile, lean and UX;
  • Co-design, participatory design and design sprints as a way to ideate and build inclusion;
  • Design Sprint and Design Thinking introduction;
  • Generating a design and human centric culture in your team;
  • Learn strategies and techniques to increase participation, even when physical presence is not possible

Prerequisites

This course is one of three in a wholistic series.

Students that have already taken MSL-111 and those with prior experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript building simple web pages will be good candidates for this module.

He leads a team building experiences for explore and search at Twitter. He strives to build diverse teams and safe spaces, making sure everyone is included and all voices are heard. Over the years he helped to build many products from 0-1 elevating designers to the strategy sphere.

Previously he was at Lyft where he was a Head of Design for Lyft Business, leading a suite of products for organizations to get rides for their people. He launched Lyft Pass a self-service product that allow companies to create ride programs.
